Homework Requirements
Homework is worth 20% of the final grade. It is usually one worksheet corresponding to the day’s lesson and will be assigned almost daily. Students are required to record the assignment in their agenda notebooks, which will be stamped with my signature. Assignments will often be corrected by the student, but reviewed and graded by the teacher. Homework will be graded on a scale of 5-0 using the following standards:
5 |
Excellent Work | The majority of examples are correct and neat, heading is correct, all work is shown, and work is completed in pencil. |
4 |
Good Work | The assignment may lack one or two of the above criteria for a “5”. |
3 |
Fair Work | Less than ½ of examples correct, examples were missed, or lacks more than two of the criteria for a “5”. This is also the grade given to any late (one day) work that would have received a “5”. |
2 |
Late Work | Work that is one day late that would have received a “4”. |
1 |
Late Work | Work that is one day late that would have received a “3”. |
0 |
No Work | Paper with no work is shown, or the assignment was not completed. |
If a student has been ill, he or she may make up the work for full credit provided it is completed in a reasonable amount of time. The student handbook allows for two days for each day absent.
There are usually 20-25 homework assignments each term. Homework is a very important part of a student’s overall grade. If a student fails to complete an assignment, the teacher will note it in the student’s agenda book. The student is expected to have the assignment completed for the next day to receive a passing score. Please check your child’s agenda book on a daily basis to be sure they are up to date with math homework. Students must include their name, date, and class color across the top of all papers.
If your child is uncertain as to how to correctly complete the assignment, it is expected that he or she do the best work possible. Once the student has worked for thirty minutes, parents may write a note letting me know that their child did the best possible work but could not understand the assignment. Of course, you could always check out the Online Textbook for assistance.
