1. Abraham
- father of all Jews
- came from Ur
- led his people (the Israelites) to monotheism (belief in one God)
- led the Israelites to their new home, Canaan, from Mesopotamia
- founding father of 3 religions

- Israelites left Canaan for Egypt due to famine
- Israelites lived well in Egypt for 600 years, then were enslaved
2. Moses
- spoke to God - Burning Bush
- led enslaved Israelites out of Egypt
- they wandered about the Saini Peninsulan desert for 40 years
- got the 10 Commandments
- returned to Canaan
3. Saul
- led the Israelites and helped them conquer Canaan and helped defend them against many enemies
4. David
- united 12 Israelite tribes into a single nation
- established Jerusalem as the capital of his kingdom
5. Solomon
- Israel grew rich under his rule through trade by land and sea
- transformed Jerusalem into a magnificent capital
- his buildings were expensive
- built a famous temple, which was destroyed by Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar in 586 BC
- after Solomon's death, Israel split into 2 kingdoms
> North kingdom was Israel, which was conquered by the Assyrians in 722 BC. The Israelites were then exiled to Babylon.
> South kingdom was Judah, which was conquered by the Chaldeans around 587 BC. The Judeans were exiled as well.
