1.) gallivant - (v.) to roam about in search for pleasure or amusement
Recess is the time for gallivanting; class is the time to remain quiet and to pay attention.
2.) annihilate - (v.) to destroy completely
He was so annoyed with the bee that he decided to annihilate it with a fly swatter.
3.) synthetic - (adj.) prepared or made artificially
Her response to a very poor joke made by her friend was a synthetic chuckle.
4.) tenacity - (noun.) the quality of having persistent determination
The Philadelphia Phillies played baseball with such tenacity this year that they were able to be this year's World Series champions.
5.) connotation - (n.) an idea or meaning suggested by or associated with a word or thing
Many novels possess a variety of connotations through their themes and conflicts.
6.) sadist - (n.) a person who derives pleasure from cruelty
A sadist is not someone I would want to be friends with since this particular person will laugh at someone who makes a mistake.
7.) omnipotent - (adj.) having unlimited power or authority
Mr. Patota is the almighty and omnipotent member of our school.
8.) brusquely - (adv.) in a blunt direct manner
The student presented her Book Report brusquely and made her points very clear to the rest of us listening.
9.) bravado - (n.) defiant or arrogant behavior
His display of bravado after he won the contest shows that he is not a very likeable person.
10.) chortle - (n.) a snorting, joyful laugh or chuckle
Some jokes are just not all that funny to us, but others will often make us chortle or guffaw if they are told correctly.
