Parent Information

This page is designed to help answer the questions your children can't. If you would like to see any other information here, please e-mail me rgallagher@freelake.org and let me know.

Students should come to class every day with a pencil (maybe 2), an eraser, math notebook, ruler, colored pencil, agenda and cheap calculator. I do have calculators and rulers in the classroom but they are for emergencies only.

Students do often work together in my class. However, this does not mean they only do half the work. If they use a calculator, they both still have to show the work they have done. Homework is not graded, but is assigned to see if students can do the work on their own. If students get most of the problems wrong, they should ask for help and they need to redo the assignment. If students are having trouble with homework, they can call a friend, look in their book or try one of the homework help sites available.

See Homework page for homework grading.

Tests are given at the end of a unit. Students may not retake tests but they are allowed to correct them. They must use the following format to correct tests.

# of the question that they got wrong

a. Explain what they did wrong

b. Explain what they should have done

c. Correct the problem

For each problem the students correct, they earn back half of the credit they lost.

If students are having a lot of difficulty with a topic, I am available for extra help before school. Students need to be encouraged to speak up if they are having trouble.
